Constantine:
Ah, the coldest night of the year and our boiler has packed in, how predictable. But as grown men bomb the limbs off children and others launch their attrocities from the human shields of schools and hospitals and while Russia twiddle with the euro gas flow all the time pondering the downward spiral of global toxic debt problems, you can't help but think that there are worse things going on out there.
And so just how shallow and hedonistic can it be to ponder the vagueries of an offshore breeze on a rising swell? Well, when there's a three to four foot swell with a light offshore breeze brushing across those peaking, peeling and flowing wave faces and while the glistening frost of frozen sand is melted by each wash of those same waves, maybe it would be a good thing for some more people to ponder those things. In the meantime, if the Ukraine gas man is interested, it is still absolutely gorgeous down at the bay today. A little smaller than yesterday but not so's you'd notice (but then, how good did that get at Boobies in the afternoon! Check www.360photography.co.uk , he was out snapping away and must have got a few good 'uns). So, three foot plus, lined up and clean and looking like it may even improve, with frost on the beach and nobody else in sight. Wrap up warm and have a good one!

It's been a long and chilly old winter already and we're only nearing the halfway mark! With temperatures like we've been 'enjoying' recently, a good wetsuit makes the difference between a great session and a painful endurance test. We only stock the very best wetsuits at the very best prices and this winter O'Neill's PsychoFreak and Mutant have been the ones that are doing the job with the Xcel Infiniti still amongst the very best. But we're starting to run down on some sizes already, so get in quick if you're thinking of one!

We now also have the full range of lovely Finisterre jackets on the rails for these low temperatures. Don't forget those woolley lined SanUks (they're not shoes!), Ignite beanies and our very own range of snuggly Hoodies and T's.

But we still have some older stuff to shift, so, on with the SALE:
Xcel 3mm wetsuits - 35% OFF across the whole range!!
There's a whole 50% OFF a heap of ladies stuff, £15 off boardshorts and a fiver off most T's . And huge discounts on our Nixon watches! These are just a little of what's on offer so why not drop in on us!

Harlyn:

A foot or maybe two with a little bump to it. This breeze must have a bit of north in it again. Anyway, it is so good everywhere else, it's probably not the best option.

Forecast for Thursday 8th January 2009:
The same size swell is forecast but I'm guessing that it will feel a bit more solid and should be even more lined up and even. The wind is likely to switch to a more south easterly direction which is just the very best direction to groom those little (and some not so little) peelers. A big old sky full of winter sunshine should cap off what is looking like yet anotehr very promising day.

Conditions for the end of the week:
With this high pressure system firmly anchored pretty much right on top of us, these clean, settled and mainly offshore conditions are likely to continue. There are a few swell producing winds way out there in the Atlantic with direct access to this coastline and so it looks like the surf feast is set to continue. After weakening through Wednesday the swell looks like it will thicken into Thursday and strengthen again towards the weekend. Offshores are set with a gradual swing to the more gentle south easterly direction which often grooms our very best surf. And there's nobody around (maybe the subzero temperatures have something to do with that!)!

Water Temperature: 9 deg C (about 48 ish F).

We hope to be able to report on the actual surf conditions each or most mornings and try to predict the next day's conditions. If we don't then the conditions are that bad (or good?).

Our scale for measuring conditions is the universal one; 1ft (barely rideable - your choice), 2-3ft (hip to shoulder height when trimming across the wave), 3-4ft (head high and great), 4-5ft (that little bit bigger), 6ft (very rare - well overhead), 8ft (rarely gets bigger in this country but has been known), 10ft (very rarely rideable in this country only a few breaks can hold this size) 12ft + (get yer jet ski, yer big wave gun, kiss yer family and friends good-bye and head for the hills - but I've never seen it this big and rideable in this country)
