We hope to be able to report on the actual surf conditions each or most mornings and try to predict the next day's conditions. If we don't then the conditions are that bad (or good?).

Low Tide:
10.46
(1.5m)
High Tide:
16.37
(6.7m)

It's a peaceful one this morning, all still and (relatively) mild, other than the rumble of the surf.
And that surf is good!
Three to five feet of oily glass is rolling into the bays and what air movement there is is offshore, promising good things for later.  Dull and grey skies are blanketing us but that's kind of cosy too, sometimes it's nice to not have that distraction of super fine weather along with those rolling waves.  It's that sort of day when you know that it's going to be good all day and pretty much everywhere.  Not big enough to be worrying but certainly big enough to be fun.
Mind you, after saying all that, it's not breaking that brilliantly down there.... yet.  That is likely the tide, it's half way out on the drop.  The incoming tide should bring more treasures to us as that swell hits those sandbars a little more decisively.  In the meantime I can think of a couple of spots not that far away that will be on fire right now!

I'm away for a few days from wednesday and Matt is spending the week searching for waves with a few of his mates, scouring the northern tips for some proper Winter grinders.  That means that the shop will be closed from Wednesday through to Friday.  Matt will be back to open up on Saturday morning doubtless with footage of his cold water adventures!
But there will be no surf report for a few days although Matt will doubtless Tweet a little pointer each day when he gets back.  So follow @constantinesurf for those instagram snaps!

The video of Toby trying the Sea Glass finless board and the Meyerhoffer Lemondrop last week can be seen at vimeo.com/36075023 .  You can see him adjusting to the boards as he goes along.  A bit wobbly to begin with but getting there eventually.

Little glassy, hip to shoulder high walls are slapping through here this morning too.
It's not the biggest but it is shimmering in the stillness.  It is such a shame that so many waves just close out around here.  If only we had a point in place for those glassy walls to cling to.  But then when it's big that does happen a bit.
Anyway, there are little waves shuffling through and one or two of them are grinding off the Rock.  But the other side is the place to be today and probably for the rest of the week.

Our scale for measuring conditions is the universal one; 1ft (barely rideable - your choice), 2-3ft (hip to shoulder height when trimming across the wave), 3-4ft (head high and great), 4-5ft (that little bit bigger), 6ft (very rare - well overhead), 8ft (rarely gets bigger in this country but has been known), 10ft (very rarely rideable in this country only a few breaks can hold this size). 12ft + (get yer jet ski, yer big wave gun, kiss yer family and friends good-bye and head for the hills - but I've never seen it this big and rideable in this country).

Surf Forecast for Tuesday 7th february 2012

Hmm, keep your eyes on it today.  It may start out a little uninteresting but looking at those weather charts, things could improve dramatically.

There's a deep old low out there that should be spinning swell our way right now.  And that swell should have travelled all the way across the North Atlantic, picking up friends on its way, ready to pummel this jagged little coastline that we call home.
It could very well be pumping by the incoming, afternoon tide!
How do you fancy five to six feet of solid, lined up and evenly spaced swell?  It could/should happen today.
And with offshores predicted for the next good wee while, well, it is all looking to be just about as good as it gets!
Maybe.

Surf Conditions for the Week Ahead

A rolling, even and relatively powerful little swell is rolling our way through the week. And with the wind having had a little onshore relax through the weekend,  it is looking to swing offshore by Monday morning and lighten, ready to hold those waves up ready for us to enjoy.
Yep it is looking like a very nice start to the week with pumping, clean surf and warmer air temperatures than last week.  By Tuesday afternoon we could very well be enjoying 'as good as it gets' conditions!  And I don't often stick my neck out that far!
The weather is looking a bit mixed but we should see enough brightness and, if the surf is that good, it doesn't really matter does it?
Have a great week, whatever you're doing!
